Ballarat Vintage Tramway
Ballarat, Victoria, Australia
This is a really neat site from “Down Under” and shows that the love of Trolleys knows no geographic boundaries. Be sure to sign their guest book.
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
West Bengal, India
Nicknamed the “Toy Train”, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge railway in the Indian state of West Bengal. Built between 1879 and 1881, the train starts at about 100 m (328 ft) elevation at Siliguri and ascends to about 2,200 m (7,218 ft) at Darjeeling on the slopes of the Himalayas only 86 km (53 mi) away. It is still powered by a steam engine (a modern diesel engine is used for Darjeeling’s mail). The train has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Wikipedia also has an excellent article on this railway. If you like your Darjeeling tea, this is the place it comes from!
