The Future – The Capital Expansion Plan

Other components of the Capital Expansion Plan

Track Construction and Rehabilitation
Align and ballast the entire line as needed. Use rail from the dismantled West Corridor line for the new alignment. (The trolley main line is approximately 7,400 feet long.)

Trolley wire
Electric trolleys obtain their power from a single wire strung between poles. This feature makes them clean and quiet. The system is the same as used throughout the world, beginning around 1890, and continuing to the present day. This would be trolley wire "art in the park", using decorative poles with artistic iron supports similar to those used in better neighborhoods in years past. This type of installation would complement the appearance of our historic cars. An example of such an application is at the Ft. Collins Municipal Railway trolley. It is installed on 1½ miles of park median through a historic neighborhood of homes on West Mountain Avenue.

Power supply from wind power
The 600 Volt DC power supply would be provided from a rectifier located in the museum. All power will be purchased from the Excel Energy's Windsource renewable energy program. This would further enhance the "environmental friendliness" of the Platte Valley Trolley.
