Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
West Bengal, India

Nicknamed the "Toy Train", the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge railway in the Indian state of West Bengal. Built between 1879 and 1881, the train starts at about 100 m (328 ft) elevation at Siliguri and ascends to about 2,200 m (7,218 ft) at Darjeeling on the slopes of the Himalayas only 86 km (53 mi) away. It is still powered by a steam engine (a modern diesel engine is used for Darjeeling’s mail). The train has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Wikipedia also has an excellent article on this railway. If you like your Darjeeling tea, this is the place it comes from!
